Monument Day is a chance to look at Amsterdam differently. Historic buildings reveal their stories, familiar streets invite a second glance, and the city’s architecture becomes part of the experience.
At Moco Museum Amsterdam, heritage meets the art of now. Moco is an independent modern and contemporary art museum with locations in Amsterdam, Barcelona, and London. Across its museums, Moco presents modern, contemporary, digital, immersive, and street art through accessible and emotionally engaging experiences.
In Amsterdam, that experience unfolds on Museumplein, where a historic villa creates an intimate setting for bold ideas, iconic works, and new perspectives. Whether Moco is already part of your city routine or you are spending the weekend in Amsterdam, Monument Day is an invitation to step inside for less.
Moco Museum Amsterdam is located at Honthorststraat 20 in Villa Alsberg, a building designed in 1904 by architect Eduard Cuypers and originally built for banker Siegmund Alsberg.
Before it became a museum, Villa Alsberg was a private home. It remained the first privately owned residence on Museumplein until 1939. Today, its historic architecture meets a very different visual language inside, where the interior has been adapted for gallery spaces, including immersive and digital installations.
That contrast is part of the experience. Walk through a building rooted in Amsterdam’s past while encountering art shaped by the questions, culture, technology, and emotions of today.
Moco brings different artistic worlds together under one roof. Visitors can encounter modern and contemporary art alongside street art and digital and immersive art.
The experience is designed to feel approachable, whether you regularly visit museums or rarely step inside one. Look closely. Move through light, colour, image, and space. Some works feel instantly familiar. Others may shift the way you see something you thought you knew.
This Monument Day in Amsterdam, the building and the art create a conversation between then and now.
