What is a digital and immersive art museum?

A digital and immersive art museum presents artworks created with digital technology, immersive environments, or interactive media. Unlike temporary immersive attractions, these works are curated as part of contemporary art exhibitions and museum collections.

At Moco Museum Barcelona, digital and immersive artworks are presented alongside modern and contemporary artists inside the historic Palau Cervelló in El Born.

Digital & Immersive Art at Moco Museum Barcelona

Digital and immersive art fit naturally within Moco’s curatorial philosophy: presenting contemporary artworks that reflect the cultural language of today.

At Moco Museum Barcelona, digital installations are exhibited alongside contemporary art and artists influenced by street culture and global visual movements. Projection-based artworks, immersive environments, and interactive installations appear within the museum’s broader contemporary program.

Moco Museum Barcelona is one of the museums in Barcelona presenting digital art within a contemporary art program. In this sense, the museum also functions as a digital museum Barcelona visitors explore for technology-driven contemporary art.

By presenting digital art and immersive environments within a curated museum context, the experience differs from spectacle-driven attractions. Instead, installations are framed as artworks within exhibitions that explore contemporary culture.

From Digital Art to Immersive Experiences: What You Can Experience at Moco

Visitors often ask whether Moco is an immersive museum in Barcelona or simply a space displaying digital screens.

The answer lies in experience.

The Digital & Immersive Art exhibition explores how technology expands artistic language. Examples include light-based environments, interactive installations, and immersive artworks that respond to movement or perception.

Currently and recently featured installations include works by Studio Irma, whose immersive environments explore colour, optimism, and digital presence.

Rather than passive viewing, immersive artworks invite visitors to step inside the experience. Movement changes perspective, light reshapes the environment, and visitors become part of the artwork itself.

Visitors looking for immersive art in Barcelona can experience digital installations and immersive artworks at Moco Museum Barcelona. Located in the historic Palau Cervelló in El Born, the museum presents immersive works alongside contemporary artists within a curated museum setting.

Visiting the MOCO Museum in Barcelona was one of the highlights of my trip. It’s a place where modern, contemporary, and digital art come together in the most dynamic way full of color, creativity, and unexpected emotions. The museum is located in the heart of El Born, inside a beautifully restored historic building that contrasts perfectly with the modern art inside. From the moment you enter, you feel the vibrant energy each room has its own mood, from powerful visual installations to immersive digital experiences.

This is a small collection, but the carefully chosen selection of great artists and pieces keeps a tourist, otherwise busy with all the city’s attractions , focused on the very best. Guillermo Lorca’s works are striking: fresh, imaginative, and captivating.

I had the amazing opportunity to visit it this week and it honestly left me speechless. As someone who deeply loves art, I was thrilled to see works by some of my favorite artists: Banksy, Yayoi Kusama, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and so many more! They’re also currently featuring a temporary exhibition of artworks by Robbie Williams. I was so surprised, he’s not only a talented singer, but also an incredible artist! Thank you, Moco Museum, for this unforgettable experience! ✨

I especially loved how the exhibition combines world-famous artists like Banksy, Basquiat, and Andy Warhol with emerging digital creators and NFT art. It’s not a typical “quiet” museum it’s interactive, emotional, and modern. The NFT and digital rooms were fascinating they make you reflect on how art, technology, and human creativity are merging today. Lighting, music, and the flow between rooms are very well designed, so you never feel bored or overwhelmed. The curators clearly thought about how to make art feel accessible, emotional, and current. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the museum shop also has great souvenirs and art books.

Digital Art, Immersive Art & NFTs: How They Connect

Digital art, immersive art, and NFTs are frequently discussed together in contemporary art conversations.

NFTs represent new models of ownership and distribution within digital culture. Immersive installations, by contrast, focus on spatial experience and interaction.

While Moco Museum Barcelona is not an NFT museum, the museum acknowledges NFTs as part of the broader evolution of digital art and artistic experimentation with technology.
