WhIsBe in Amsterdam

Contemporary Artist

Contemporary artist WhIsBe (short for What is Beauty) has established himself as a major player in the world of street art and now the NFT world. His work is at once innocuous and sweet and introduces more substantive themes of cultural examination and subversion.

Renowned for his Vandal Gummy Bear (Red), a symbol of lost innocence, WhIsBe’s art symbolizes the idea that we all start life as naĂŻve children until something happens that turns our world upside down.

The work of a well-known candy turned into a political message is not uncommon for this multimedia artist. WhIsBe draws inspiration from Andy Warhol’s commercial imagery to communicate political messages, which makes them a little more relatable and a little bit sweeter.

WhIsBe’s Vandal Gummy Bear (Red) has been to the New Museum in New York, the lobby of the rebuilt One World Trade Center building, the Governor’s Ball Music Festival, and now at Moco Museum Amsterdam. In the Moco Garden, you can see WhIsBe’s Vandal Gummy Bear (Red) in sculpture and NFT form in the New FuTure!

I visited the museum for the second time. This time, it was richer in artworks, and the temporary exhibition by Robbie Williams really made a difference, raising strong awareness around the topic of mental health. It’s an exhibition that sparks a lot of reflection on current issues.
