New works, new disruptions
Two highlights making their museum debut are Madonna and Child (2024) and Happy Choppers (Crude Oil) (2024). The first offers a delicate yet unsettling reimagining of a sacred figure, while the second shows military helicopters breaking into a serene autumn landscape.
Another striking presence is Bullet Hole Bust (2006), inspired by the classical myth and interrupted by a single bullet hole. Originally acquired directly from the artist by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie following his Barely Legal exhibition in Los Angeles in 2006, the work transforms an image of idealised beauty into a powerful commentary on vulnerability, violence, and the fragility of power. It is now part of Moco Museum’s permanent collection.
These works appear alongside iconic pieces such as Girl with Balloon (Gold) (2004), Love is in the Air (Red) (2003), and Laugh Now Panel B (2002), creating fresh dialogues between irony, protest, and hope.
Moco Museum was among the first museums in the world to exhibit Banksy’s work. Since then, his presence has remained central to Moco’s mission: to make contemporary art accessible and to champion artists who challenge the status quo. With Disrupted Power, Moco proudly continues that dialogue, presenting Banksy’s work as both reflection and disruption, and inviting audiences to look closer.
